Many low-cost “internet” batteries are built using recycled lead and lower-grade components, which can mean shorter life and poor performance. If they fail under warranty, returning them can be difficult — most UK couriers won’t accept used batteries.
Battery Balancers
⏳How a battery balancer can extend the life of your mobility scooter batteries
Mobility scooters most often use two batteries connected in series. Although they may be the same age and type, small differences mean one battery will naturally charge and discharge faster than the other. Over time, this causes one battery to become over-charged and the other over-discharged, 🔋🪫which leads to early failure.
A battery balancer continuously monitors the voltage of each battery and automatically shifts energy from the higher-voltage battery to the lower-voltage one. This keeps both batteries at nearly the same voltage during charging, discharging, and even when the scooter is not in use.
By keeping the batteries balanced: Over-charging and over-discharging are prevented and both batteries age at the same rate ✅
